Professional Activities
Project manager to develop an Ecological Classification System for the Hoosier National Forest . Led a team of three faculty and seven graduate students in development of the ECS that is used in management planning for the forest. This system is now being used to develop a GIS map of the forest for planning and management.
Initiated the Indian Pine Field Station and served as director. This watershed based Station stimulated multidisciplinary research and education at Purdue University to understand the relation of land use to water quality and habitat quality. Faculty and graduate students from the Schools of Engineering, Science and Agriculture are involved in the Station.
Project manager to examine to effects of white-tailed deer on habitat condition within the State parks of Indiana . This resulted in a management control program to maintain deer populations within the carrying capacity of their habitat within each park.
Initiated the development of the John S. Wright Forestry Center . This $4 million center is used for hands-on teaching, research and outreach in the Natural Resource Sciences.
