2009-2010 Professional Foresters Directory now available

Congratulations to IFWOA member Robert Woodling of Unionville! Robert was selected as the North Central Region Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year. He will be competing against three other regional winners for National Tree Farmer of the Year. Announcement will be made at the National Tree Farm convention in September.

EQIP Programs for Forestry

The 2008 Farm Bill provided for very good funding for forestry practices in the EQIP program. Specific information will be available in the spring or summer 2009 but you are encouraged to check on your eligibility and sign up NOW at your local NRCS office.

Forestry practices which may be eligible include:

Forest stand improvement
Prescribed forestry management
Tree and shrub establishment
Upland and wetland wildlife habitat management
Early successional habitat development and management
Pruning
Invasive Species Control

USDA Offers Stimulus Dollars to Help Farmers With Flood-Damaged Land

INDIANAPOLIS, March 9, 2009 –USDA announced today that a portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Stimulus Package) is being offered to farmers whose fields have had flood damages.  The damages could have happened last June, or could be in fields that have a recurring flood problem.  Land qualifies if it has been flooded at least once in the past 12 months, or twice in the past 10 years. Contact your NRCS office for more details.
