Research projects
This property is used as a field laboratory for students and private land owners throughout the region. The Darlington woods contains valuable timber on the site and has a long research history. Research on forest inventory, oak regeneration, and herbicide efficacy has occurred on the site. The stream running through the property from agricultural land offers potential for additional research use.
Directions
The property is located approximately 6 miles north northeast of Crawfordsville , IN. It is accessed by taking State Road 231 south from West Lafayette to CR 550 North (~2.5 miles north of I-74). Turn east on 550 N for about 2.5 miles. The main road will turn 90 degrees to the right while 550 continues east. If you follow 550, it will dead end at the Darlington Woods where the bridge across Lye Creek is out. If you follow the 90 degree turn to the south on 550 N, it will turn back to the east in ½ mile on 500 North. Take 500 N to 500 East and turn north on 500 E for about a half mile. The southeast corner of the property sits at the intersection of 500 E and 550 N. The access parking area is ~100 yards to the west of this intersection on the south side of the woods.
