Anisul Islam is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) at Purdue University. Dr. Islam received his B.Sc. (Honors) in Forestry from Chittagong University, Bangladesh in 1993, his M. Sc. in Forestry (Tree Physiology) from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1999, and his Ph.D. in Forest Biology and Management (Tree Ecophysiology) from University of Alberta, Canada in 2004. He Joined Dr. Jacobs’ lab in August 2006.
Dr. Islam’s research interests focus on ecophysiology of tree seedlings and stress physiology of forest trees. He has studied the effects of drought, flooding, cold temperature, and UV-B radiation on different tree seedlings. His research emphasizes physiological, biochemical and structural adaptations of tree seedlings subjected to different environmental stresses at the whole plant level. He also examines water relations parameters of different tress species and tries to explore the driving factors that regulate root hydraulic conductance in trees and how they are interrelated with other physiological processes such as gas exchange, carbon partitioning and root respiration. Additional interests include stress conditioning and seedling quality improvement for forest regeneration.
